EMDR Therapy in Phnom Penh

Evidence-based trauma processing therapy for PTSD, past trauma, and distressing memories. Available in Khmer and English.

What Is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, evidence-based therapy designed to help people recover from trauma, PTSD, and distressing life experiences. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR targets specific memories and uses bilateral stimulation — typically guided eye movements — to help the brain reprocess them in a healthier way.

EMDR is particularly effective for trauma related to Cambodia's historical experiences, personal loss, abuse, accidents, and other distressing events. Sodasy Van holds a professional EMDR certification and follows the strict 8-phase protocol.

The 8 Phases of EMDR

1

History Taking

Understanding your background, trauma history, and treatment goals.

2

Preparation

Building trust and teaching coping strategies before processing begins.

3

Assessment

Identifying specific memories and the negative beliefs attached to them.

4

Desensitization

Processing the traumatic memory using bilateral stimulation (eye movements).

5

Installation

Strengthening positive beliefs to replace the negative ones.

6

Body Scan

Checking for any remaining physical tension linked to the memory.

7

Closure

Returning to a state of calm and stability at the end of each session.

8

Re-evaluation

Reviewing progress and identifying what to work on next.
